SouthArk Students to Compete in Auto Skills Competition

Vice President Michael J. Right of the Ford/AAA National Student Auto Skills competition announced, this week, that two South Arkansas Community College Technical Center students have qualified to compete in the Arkansas State Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition at Batesville on April 25 & 26th.  Mr. Paul Reeme of Junction City High School and James Allen of Parker’s Chapel High School will be traveling to the Mark Martin Museum to compete for the State of Arkansas title.  Instructor Doyle Manis will be their advisor.

The students qualified to compete on the basis of a national exam.  The second part of the exam is the actual “Hands-on” competition.  The winning state team will compete with 51 other teams for the National title.  Last year’s team, advised by Instructor Karsten Tidwell , consisted of Joey Falcon of Junction City High School and Blake Bullard of El Dorado High School.  They finished second in State competition.

The Ford/AAA National  Student Auto Skills competition is one of the most rigorous and competitive of all high school automobile technology competitions.  Hundreds of students take the written qualifying exam, all hoping to make it to the “Hands-on” competition.  To achieve standing at the State level is a real feat in itself.  To achieve the opportunity to go to National competition represents an extremely high level of automotive technology skills mastery.
