El Dorado, AR (March 19, 2008) - The SouthArk Choral Society will present their spring concert “The Music of Leonard Bernstein” on April 12th at 7:00 p.m. at the South Arkansas Arts Center.
This great American composer would have turned 90 this year and choruses throughout our country are celebrating with performances of his music. SouthArk will include selections from his most beloved musical “West Side Story” as well as his most controversial work “Mass”.
Because both of these works are theatre pieces, the venue at the Arts Center with the restored Steinway grand piano will be particularly appropriate. The choir, made up of SouthArk students, staff, faculty and community volunteers, will be singing and acting.
The accompanist will be McCoy Ransom from Grambling University in Ruston. The director of the concert, Victoria Harden, is associate professor of music at SouthArk.
