Dr. Laury Hamburg, is a retired professor after 38 years with the City Colleges of Chicago. With family in the area, he and his wife Linda picked Smackover and El Dorado for their golden years.
Professor Hamburg taught speech and theatre at the college and was an actor/director in area summer theatres. His main background in poetry reading was in what he shared with his classes throughout the years.
Laury has been our seminar presenter in the past. One of his talks disputes the Stratford on Avon Shakespearian authorship. He made a good case, but the argument goes on.
Laury has selected passages from his favorite poems on the subject of spring. He says good attendance at his reading will help the flowers bloom early and often. Some of the poets to be read are Robert Frost, Robert Browning, e.e. cummings, Carl Sandburg, Ernest Lawrence Thayer, William S. Gilbert and, last but not least, William Shakespeare--whoever he was.
